Travel Disruption: 12th/13th May – Railways (London Waterloo Line)

There is disruption expected to train services that will impact Cranbrook residents on Friday 12th May and Saturday 13th May too.

The update from South Western Railway is:

The nationwide ASLEF strike on Friday 12 May will include SWR’s network-wide depot drivers and train drivers on the Island Line.

There will be no services on the Island Line all day.

While this industrial action does not impact the majority of our drivers on ASLEF strike days, there are some impacts on the West of England and suburban routes, because of local industrial action.

As a result, we expect to run a reduced service between Exeter and Waterloo, in the Romsey area and on our suburban network in order to provide customers greater certainty on which services will run. We are working up our contingency plans and will publish more information as soon as possible.

Services on Friday 12 May across our network may be subject to short notice delay and cancellation. Journey planners will be up to date by the end of Thursday 11 May and customers should check before travelling at www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey

In addition, train drivers will be taking strike action at most national rail operators, so customers are urged to check their entire journey before travelling at www.nationalrail.co.uk

Saturday 13 May – RMT strike action and ASLEF overtime ban

Members of the RMT union will take part in nationwide strike action on 13 May, severely reducing the number of trains we will be able to run and our hours of operation.

A reduced service will operate between 0700 and 1900 only and large parts of our network will be closed.

We will serve the following routes:

  • London Waterloo to Windsor via Hounslow – 2 trains per hour reducing to 1 from mid-afternoon
  • London Waterloo to Windsor via Richmond – 2 trains per hour*
  • London Waterloo to Woking – 4 trains per hour
  • London Waterloo to Basingstoke – 1 fast and 2 semi-fast trains per hour
  • Basingstoke to Salisbury – 1 train per hour
  • A reduced service on the Island Line

There will be no services on any other SWR routes.

Due to long-planned engineering works in the Winchester area, trains will not run between Basingstoke and Southampton Central.

Given the extensive disruption, we are sorry to ask customers to only travel if absolutely necessary on Saturday 13 May.
