The July 2023 Cranbrook Town Council Amenities Committee Meeting agenda is out – here are the things I think you’ll be most interested in (potentially!) – as always the full agenda is at the bottom of the post.
1) Introduction & Update from the Country Park Ranger
As per my previous post, there is finally a Country Park ranger – and we’ll get to hear from the new Country Park Ranger, Andrew. If you’re interested in matters about the country park, please come along and meet him and hear what he has to say – and don’t forget you have an opportunity to speak and ask things (not just about this) if you want.
2) Community Speedwatch
There’s a report and update on the Community Speedwatch Scheme – there is a report but sadly I’ve been asked not to share the data publicly.
3) Crannaford Play Area – Path Issues
This has been on the agenda before – we previously determined that further investigation needed to be done to find a proper solution to the issues – especially as in future Play Parks and the existing ones there are issues that have arisen a few times and deserve proper attention. This is an update on that work, which centres around issues with the gravel in the park.
4) Great Meadow – Removal of Fencing
Great Meadow Country Park is split into sections denoted by fencing – and there is a proposal to remove it (at a cost of £2873.00). The report says:
The fencing can hamper access to sections of the Great Meadow

particularly during inclement weather and general movement through this area of the Country park. This is an area enjoyed by walkers and dog owners. Furthermore the fencing whilst currently providing no practical purpose is subject to ongoing repairs and maintenance.
There are some photos to help visualise things:
(For the above, Red denotes the fence, Yellow denotes Gates)
5) Grass Bailing in the Country Park
The Country Park is due for its annual cut of meadow grass following the Country Park Management Plan. This action promotes local habitat management and encourages new growth in the meadows. In 2022, following incidents of arson, the Country Park Working Group were requested to re-form specifically to look at the issues and consequences of baling and to report its recommendations. The Council noted the decision of the working party to suspend baling of meadow grass for a period of one year (2022) to reflect the advice of the Fire Service
