Road Safety around Cranbrook
Keeping vulnerable and young people safe
Overview
There’s a resident-led campaign that is actively working to get sensible measures introduced to manage speeds and improve road safety in Cranbrook to protect everyone, but especially the most vulnerable people in the community – particularly around schools where poor road layout and lack of sensible traffic management is a constant cause for concern among residents which creates easily reducible risks.
The campaign wants you to think ’20 is plenty’. Lower speeds have a significant impact on safety and the potential for serious injury in the event of a collision, and you’d think it was as simple as changing a few signs. Sadly, there are a lot of different challenges involved in getting something done and it isn’t going to be that straightforward.
Despite this, I fully support the campaign group that are pushing to make Road Safety a priority for the town, and I want to be able to represent those issues for the benefit of the entire community, but to do that I need your vote – it will help me have more sway with the right people and help bring a result. There’s also the problem of bad parking, a lack of signage, bad or invisible road markings etc all causing problems for the residents of the town and leaving everyone at risk.
It shouldn’t be necessary to risk injury or worse every time you cross a road to do basic things in life, and it shouldn’t be a continual nightmare for drivers to navigate around the town forced to try and enter a road with inadequate visibility due to poor road design, bad parking and a lack of ability to enforce anything to fix it. Nor should any parent have to worry that they’ll be visiting their own child in hospital – or worse – when they supported the natural development of a family in life and giving them some independence to go out and about in the town or walk home from school.
By voting for me you’re voting for someone already actively engaged in trying to help improve things, working to bring the like minded people in the community together on the issue and by being your representative for Cranbrook I can work with the various stakeholders closely and more authoritatively to help make Cranbrook safe.
Ultimately, Cranbrook should be safe for everyone!

If you’re interested in Road Safety matters, you might also be interested to know that there is a Community Speed Watch scheme that aims to help keep speeds down and everyone safe. It is supported & approved by the local police as an official scheme. If you’d be interested in volunteering to help with it get in touch and I’ll put you in contact with the people you need to speak to – and they’d welcome volunteers to join them.
If you’re interested in supporting or being involved with the Road Safety Campaign itself, you can join the Facebook Group and if you’re not on Facebook but want to get involved get in touch with me and I’d be happy to point you in the right direction.
