How can residents be better served in Cranbrook?
Overview
Healthcare is undoubtedly in crisis nationally thanks to over a decade of cuts to public services and terribly poor decisions and certainly isn’t a Cranbrook specific issue. However, Cranbrook as a growing town with thousands of homes and more coming is woefully under served – there is one small doctors’ surgery, no dentists, and that makes for inadequate facilities to serve the entire town. People have regularly told me that this is a top issue for them in Cranbrook.
It should be obvious that Healthcare provision is essential to everyone – from young families, those with long term health issues needing regular care and the elderly – and everyone else in between. Whilst personally I’ve been pretty lucky with my health, it is clear that these things should not be ‘optional’ and we need to encourage more to be done in this area. I have no doubt that the team at the medical centre work hard and do everything they can – they need support just as much as the town needs more facilities for many aspects of healthcare, and the issue of Healthcare certainly isn’t about the people there!
At every level the town can’t cope when it comes to Healthcare matters and I’m told that even previous services the residents and community found invaluable have been reduced or taken away – for example baby weighing has been cut entirely (though this used to be a fixture of the town), and capacity has already been reached for patients locally given the frequent comments and feedback about the problem getting help.
Healthcare is ultimately another issue that involves many different organisations and this often sadly results in a disjointed and slow moving approach to improve things, but there does need to be strong representation and championing of the towns need for more healthcare facilities.
