Environment & Climate: Adaptation Strategy Consultation

Earlier this week, Cranbrook saw just how well the flood defences worked to channel away a few hours of monumental rainfall, effectively dispensing the floodwaters by the next day – as designed.

Thankfully, we didn’t have to deal with several days of such sustained rainfall that might test their resilience & that of measures more widely in the county that can cause widespread issues.

Most of us are doubtless aware that globally we’re moving into periods of greater extremes of rainfall and drought as a result of climate breakdown, which is why people across Devon, and the region, are being invited to have their say on the regional strategy that will help Devon, as well as Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, to make the changes we need to cope with the worst effects.

From Tue 9th May to 30th June, residents are being consulted on the regional Climate Adaptation Strategy ahead of its publication later this year. This strategy will help us all to deal with how we mitigate the impact and adapt to the ’shocks’ we can expect and the different ways these will impact local people and places.

There’s a free webinar on Tuesday 16th May, 5-6pm to explain the Adaptation Strategy in detail and will include a Q&A session – learn about it & have your say particularly if this is a cause you’re passionate about on the ‘Climate Resilient Devon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly‘ site.
