The results of the District Council Election have been announced for the 3 seats available to represent Cranbrook for the next 4 years.
We were VERY close to successfully gaining a seat for me on the District Council and got 424 votes, just 35 shy of the number needed. Whilst it’s a shame, I’m grateful to every single person that voted for me – and I think it shows that there really is an appetite for change within Cranbrook. In just one month I went from someone barely anyone knew to the most popular vote outside the 3 people who’ve been known for years and years. That’s something to be pretty pleased about.
However – whilst it means I won’t get to be able to actively put your case and preferences forward with East Devon District Council, it won’t stop me working for and campaigning to help Cranbrook be a better place for everyone.
I’ll be joining the Town Council any day and my first meeting is scheduled for 15th May 2023 at 19:00 – it’s over at the Younghayes Centre, and as with almost all Council meetings you’re welcome to attend. You can listen in to the public sections, and there is a part where you can ask the Councillors questions if you wish (known as ‘Public Participation’).
Let’s keep pushing to get things done in our town and make sure we don’t let this opportunity slip away.
Low Voting Turnout Disappointment
However – for me the most disappointing thing is the turnout (that’s the number of people who voted vs those who could) – just 21% and 1020 people voted. That’s a shockingly low figure and means you’re not being well represented as so few went and indicated who they wanted to be representing residents for the next 4 years. We must learn to do better and help people realise how important voting is in future!
